Scientific name: Nilgiritragus hylocrius Habitat : Inhabiting the open montane grassland habitat of the South Western Ghats. At elevations above 2000 m, The Nilgiri Tahr is found in open grasslands interspersed with patches of stunning forests, known as sholas. sholas are surrounded by dense forests at the lower elevations. Anamalai Hills, Palni Hills,Periyar National Park, and in Western Ghats south of Eravikulam, almost to India's southern tip. Appearance: Stock Goats with short, coarse fur, darker color after maturity, both sexes have curved horns. male larger than female. adult male weighs 80-100Kg and stands 100cm tall at the shoulder. |

Common name: Sambar Scientific name: Cervous Unicolor Habitat : Sambar deers are found mainly in damp woodland environments of the Indian subcontinent, like marshes and swamps. One can hardly find them residing far from water, but they can wander out to long distances grazing. Found in Indian temperate forests. Apart from India, Sambhur deer is found in the slopes of the Himalayan Mountains, Burma, Thailand, Indochina, the Malay Peninsula, southern China, Taiwan and the islands of Sumatra and Borneo in Indonesia. Appearance: Strongly built body for running and climbing and well camouflaged coat for dry forests. Dark Brown in color, stands at 100-120cm at shoulder and weighs 300kgs, Male have antlers unlike female that can grow up to 100cm. |
